26 Jul

Although I spent last night at a small roadside motel I had a surprisingly good nights sleep and was up by 6am and on the road by 7. My ride today was on the Stewart Cassiar highway, the first of the 6 Canadian/Alaskan highways that I am determined to ride. Contrary to some of the reports that I read, the road was easy and even the dirt stretches that I encountered were a walk in the park for the BMW and I.

Days ride

The first 550km of the Stewart Cassier Highway…

The common reference to this particular road is that it traverses some of the most beautiful parts of Canadian British Columbia and although it was freezing and it rained for much of the day, the vistas didn’t dissapoint. Early into the ride I encountered 3 black bears and a jackal but still no moose notwithstanding a gazillion warning signs!

These long wooden bridges are treachorously slippery when wet….

I am spending the night at a small town called Dease Lake and fortunately its a one horse town because I want to do nothing more than go to bed!!

Another fine hotel for the night!!!…

Be a sport Many of us have the means and wherewithal to undertake the dreams we want but elect to choose otherwise, many however, do not and that is the purpose of this plea. Afrika Tikkun (http://afrikatikkun.org// ) is a South African non governmental, non profit charity organisation run by the Lubner family that in essence does just that; re-provide the possibility to dream and to create the possibility of turning those dreams into a reality.

Unlike many pleas of this nature, I am not looking for any kind of sponsorship for my trip, but I am looking for your donation, regardless of its size to Afrika Tikkun. Please pledge generously as this is a fantastic cause that will assist them to provide food, care, education, health and social services to those that are desperately in need.

Amazing scenery, take care and keep the photo’s coming. Thanks VB and Debs for helping out and making sure Rui remembers Price George courtesy of SA hospitality and a hangover!
